Bycicle tour to Visegrád
Visegrád has always been at the crossroads of attention in history thanks to its favorable strategic location. They started to build the castle first in the 13th century. The town became internationally recognised in the 15th century, during the reign of the Anjous. One of the most important events in the history of the town is the meeting of the Hungarian, Czech and Polish kings in order to create a trading route avoiding the market of Vienna. In 1991 the very same palace gave place to a meeting of the prime ministers of the same countries which resulted in the founding of the V3 and later V4 cooperation after the dissolution of Czechslovakia.
The town was the favourite of our king Matthias, who built a beautiful renassaince palace on the riverside. A second golden age started at the end of the 19th century with the commencement of steam boat services.
Today Visegrád is a favourite of domestic and international tourism, which lies in one of Hungary’s most popular holiday destinations, in the Danube bend. The annual Visegrád castle games have grown to be an international renassaince festival.
