Bycicle tour to Vác
Vác is one of Hungary’s richest in architectural heritage. It is a baroque gem famous for its triumphal arch built for the great Habsburg Maria Theresa which has been beautifully restored for its 240th anniversary.
The most monumental building in Vác is the late baroque style cathedral, also called „DOM” which was built from 1760 to 1770 based on Pilgram and the Italian Isidore Canevale’s plans. The beautiful church oozes calmness and timeless beauty, especially the beautiful altaar graced by Maulbertsch’s painting.
Vác has a unique baroque bridge with stone saints, the only one in Hungary. The most exciting thing to a visitor in the town might be the Vác mummies exhibition where they exhibit accidentally mummified citizens of the 18th century, rich and poor. Exceptional.
A beautiful Danube promenade, seasonal festivals and a bubbly social life paired with active water sports, cycling and river cruising makes Vác truly the gate to the Danube bend.
