Mountainbike tour to the highest peak of the Börzsöny hills
The Csóványos peak is the highest mountain top of the Börzöny hills with its 938 meters hight. It is the 19th tallest in Hungary, situated just on the border of Pest and Nógrád counties.
Csóványos is part of the Magas-Börzöny based on an ancient volcano from the miocene era 18-19 millions of years ago.
A great number of treks lead up the hill, the most important being the „Országos Kéktúra”, the national „blue” tour.
A the end of the tourist road is a geodesic tower made of concrete. From the top of the tower you can enjoy a beautiful 360 degrees panorama. In clear weather you can see as far as the Lower-Tatra in Slovakia. The tower is 28 m tall, and a red-white ribbon is visible on its top. It was built in 1973 and it is popular with visitors.
The peace monument next to the tower was built by naturelovers from the suburbs of Budapest.
